Dear Moderator

This is my journey since I started AS media. I have tried to make it as easy as possible to follow. I have enjoyed the whole process and I hope it is reflected throughout.

Evaluation Q7

From the Preliminary task to now I can see a massive difference in my products and the build up to them. I think that now my product looks like a recognisable music magazine and I am very pleased with the outcome. My music magazine, compared to my college magazine, has much more structure and challenges more conventions. Also it is much more detailed I feel. I think that the way I have changed my products has showed massively and there is a clear comparison. My college magazine also doesn't have the creative look my music magazine has. Looking at the comparison between the two images it is clear I have learnt a lot about the different technologies on my front cover alone. I have learnt the art of the different brush tools, shapes, fonts and the blurred effect used for the skin effect.
Also I have learnt how important meeting the Target Audiences choices are. Which is another clear change from my preliminary task to my music magazine.
I worked on everything from the costume, hairstyle, colours, decals and even the colour of lipstick and eye shadow. The conventions were key as they are the main characteristics that sell a magazine and makes it eye catching. I wanted my magazine to be recognisably vintage and I think I achieved this. compared to my college magazine which wasn't very eye catching and doesn't reflect the genre as much.
If i could go back now i would change my college magazine and use all the technologies and strategies to make it look better and flow easier. My music magazine has changed a little from my original ideas but I think the way it turned out was the best it could.

Evaluation Q6

I have used a massive amount of technology most I didn’t know existed. The most important thing for me that I have learnt is how to use the Mac properly and how to use Adobe Photoshop Elements 11. These were possibly the hardest things I had to do but the more I used them the clearer and easier they became to use.
I also used things like Slideshare, Flickr and Wordle. These also became important to most of the tasks I had to tackle, but again became easier to use after using it so many times.
The main thing was Blogger, I had never used Blogger before and at first I found it a little difficult but now it is the easiest out of all the technologies I have used. I think I have used it well and got to grips with all of different parts.
Besides all the technologies I have used for written work and research, Photography played a large factor in my new learning, I learnt about the ISO and the shutter speed which was really important when trying to take my images. It was important as I tested and trialled a few different ways of taking images. For instance I had my model force her hand forward through the air to see if I could capture this, although it didn’t work I leant about the shutter speed and snatching the camera in the process. Not only this but when my images were finally up onto the Mac I then had to save most if not all as a JPEG. PDF and JPEG meant nothing to me before Media so this again opened my eyes to more technologies.
I think I used all the technologies very well and this was just a few of them, these will all come in hand for future reference and help along the rest of my Media course.

I really enjoyed working on the macs and working in Elements 11 to create my magazine pages. As you can see from the images there is lots of layers and things all down the right side which at times became difficult to control.

Blogger also played a massive part of the whole process, it was a little boring and hard to keep up with but once I figured things out and had an outcome it became much easier to work and publish on Blogger.

Evaluation Q4 & 5

Who would be the audience for your media product and how did you attract/address the audience?

I would target my magazine at people aged 18-30 and possibly even older for people who are interested in Vintage music. It would also be perfect for travelers as I could aim it at different countries and stars across the globe at gigs and concerts. Also I would be able to add stars who would appeal to an older audience adding a dual readership. Vintage America would fit very well into my genre as it is massively represents my genre and it is extremely iconic. I address my audience like this from my main article and name of her, "Eleanor Rigby" from the famous Beatles song. Also the images I have used, costume and make-up all attract my target audience.

When looking at other vintage magazines, the modern looking magazine with Lana Del Rey on the front cover instantly felt vintage. I recognised it as vintage which made me want to incorporate this into my product. I wanted my magazine to be instantly recognisable as vintage and I think I achieved this with the rose background and the style of the image. My contents page i think is very attractive and has some different photography to what you would expect.

Evaluation Q3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Bauer: Bauer look at young people. They are a massively international institution. One thing that led me to these was that they own Viking FM which is local to me and they aim a lot of their products at my Target audience group. Also I think a magazine like mine would possibly begin to balance out the ratio of female magazines compared to large amount of male products they already have on the market. Another thing is, Bauer, at the minute, does not have a vintage magazine on the market so adding mine would create a new genre and attract more people. This would also prove to be a good thing as Bauer are very popular on social sights like Twitter and Facebook. They even have a large subscription website of their own. All of these help to push a product out further to the Target audience making their products easier to access almost everywhere. I think my product would be best with this institution as it does the most to attract an audience, and has a very wide range of genres and products.
